We have ActiveReports 1.1 DSR files (developed with VB6). Please guide me to migrate these to ActiveReports 10.

If you have ActiveReports 1.0 for VB6 reports then you will first need to upgrade them to ActiveReports 2.0 for VB6. You will need to use the UpSizer utility to convert the reports from version 1 to version 2 of ActiveReports for VB6. You should be able to find the UpSizer in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Data Dynamics\Active Reports\ if you have ActiveReports 2.0 installed on your machine.
ActiveReports 10 can use existing ActiveReports 2.0 (COM) report layout files (RPX) after some modifications to the scripting code.
1. ActiveReports 2.0 designer files (DSR/DSX) must be saved as RPX files in the ActiveReports 2.0 Designer before they can be imported into ActiveReports.
2. Once you save the RPX file, open it in notepad and change the script language to “C#” before loading it in .NET.
3. To load the RPX in your .NET application, please check the following link:
Since ActiveReports does not import any Visual Basic® or scripting code into .NET, the code will need to be rewritten using the appropriate language in the new .NET environment.
Hope this clarifies.
I have used Upsizer utility to convert the files as you suggested. However I could not find ActiveReports 2.0 Designer. Could you please let me know from where I can download this executable.
I would like to inform you that following folders are created after installing the steup :
- ‘Check for Updates’ at : C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Data Dynamics\ActiveReports Professional 2
- AR2 COM files and folders at : C:\Program Files (x86)\Data Dynamics\ActiveReports Pro
Furthermore, a seperate Editor/Viewer utility is not shipped along the AR2 COM installer to design or preview the reports.
You need to install the AR2 COM setup -> create the reports in VB6 – there you can add/open the ActiveReports files and then load the same in AR2 Viewer and preview it.
You can refer to the ‘Chapter 15 – Using ActiveReports’ ActiveX Viewer Control’ in the documentation link :
Hope it clarifies.
Let me know if you face any issues.
Thanks for the reply Reema. I have converted my .DSR files to .RPX (ActiveReports 2.0)
I have installed trial version of ActiveReports 10.0 in my system.
When I open VS 2013 for Windows, I could not see the Reporting section in the New project in order to add an activereport.
ActiveReports10 should work correctly, with all the reporting templates displayed in the mentioned IDE(VS2013).
Can you please confirm your Environmental Details with the Requirements page here :
Kindly confirm certain things :
- Is there any other AR verion installed on your machine, just in case ?
If there exists one, then uninstall the same and proceed further :
- Download the latest release : 10.2.8028.0 available at :
- Install the same on your machine with all the VS instances closed and see if the templates work fine ?
- Does that happen on any other machine ? it could be a machine specific issue…
- Share the Environmental Details(OS + VS) wherein the issue is replicable.
- Share some screenshots depicting your issues
Thanks Reema. After uninstalling and reinstalling the ActiveReports, I am able to view the reporting templates.
Please let me know how to convert image width and height from AR 2.0 (DataDynamics) to ActiveReports 10.0
Please find the attached screenshot of Image1 Properties in 2.0 . I need to know the width and height conversion in 10.0
For an Image placed inside your Picture control in case of SectionReports using ActiveReports10, you can modify the Picture control’s Size properties : Width and Height as per requirement.
Attached is the screenshot for your reference.
Let me know if you face any issues with the same.
The values which you pass into Size or SizeF structs sets the values as inches for the picture control. So, you will need to find some way to convert the pixel values to inches and then pass it. Also, please note that the pixel value depends upon the dpi (screen resolution) and may vary from machine to machine.

Thank you Reema. Currently I am working on formatting the Detail section in Section Layout of ActiveReports 10.0
There are multiple textboxes in this section, and if I set the CanGrow property to true, the content in the textboxes get overlapped in the PDF Export.
Is there any way I can avoid the overlapping and adjust the position of controls based on the content of a textbox control.
I try positioning the controls with sufficient space among one another to avoid overlapping, which I do not want to do ultimately in the PDF output.
I request you to please share a test/dummy report that replicates and explains your issues in detail, so, that I could look into it and assist you accordiingly. Without looking into the same, it would really difficult for me to comment on the behavior you are experiencing at your end.
Furthermore, please confirm if you are observing these issues with our latest AR10 SP2 release available at :
Thanks Reema. I was able to generate the sample report without any issues. While exporting the Section Report to PDF, I want the PDF output to be Sectoin 508 compatible.
I have one Picture and multiple textboxes in my report. Could you please provide a sample on how to add tags for Picture Control to make it 508 complaince?
I know there is a Tag property for each control. But I am not aware what values should I have to provide to make it 508 accessibility PDF.
I would like to mention here that currently it is not possible to make the PDF output 508 compliance. Similar issue has been discussed over here :
I have added you in the list of users requesting this feature. I will update you as/when I receive an update from the development team (34920)on this.
(Note : The feature might be included in the future builds of AR.)
